THE GARDEN OF THE PONT DES ILES
The signature garden of the FONDS POUR L'ARBRE
The Jardin du Pont des Iles, located on the shores of Lake Divonne-les-Bains, was the first place where the FONDS POUR L'ARBRE has planted trees in 2011.
Today, the Pont des Iles garden has around 131 trees, and around fifty different species.
Thanks to the donations we received from private donors, we were able to plant trees of course, but also to make the paths and arrangements, allowing everyone to enjoy an exceptional setting by the lake.
There are today around thirty left spaces for planting in this magnificent garden; According to the wishes of the donors, the trees can be planted to commemorate a person, an event such as a birth, a union, a death or even to be the common contribution of a group of friends, an association ... For decades, the tree will remain the trace of that event or that person you wish to commemorate.
THE RECONSTRUCTION OF THE ROMAN AQUEDUCT
Reconstruction in the Pont des Iles Garden and Avenue de l'Aqueduc inspection well
Following the conquest of Gaul, Julius Caesar granted land to veterans of his army. The urban center Noviodunum (current city of Nyon) was then founded between 50 and 40 BC.
The expansion of the Roman city from the 1st century AD required significant amount of water to supply the '' Colonia Julia Equestris ''. The water was collected at Divonne-les-Bains and transported to Nyon by means of the aqueduct.
This entirely underground aqueduct was almost 11 km long. The route ran through the towns of Crassier, Borex, Eysins, Signy-Avenex to lead to the heights of Nyon. During excavations in 1875, the aqueduct was listed. In 1983 he was identified on the avenue des Pontets.
In 2001 a portion of the aqueduct was updated by a group of passionate volunteers.
The reconstruction of this work took place in the Jardin du Pont des Iles in 2017 with the original stones thanks to an anonymous donation.

THE COMMUNAL ORCHARD
Rare fruits available to all Divonnais
Closely linked to the Tree Fund, the communal orchard also called "orchard of the Charderie" groups together around 50 fruit trees.
The project began in 2012, marking the municipality's wish to establish a safeguard orchard on its land. This project is educational and responsible, in order to best respect our fruit heritage and maintain genetic diversity in our plant world.
The TIOCAN orchard, located in the town of PERON and whose origins date back to the 1950s, supplied Divonne-les-Bains with a number of old varieties of apple and pear trees from the Pays de Gex. Cherry trees, chestnut trees and other walnut trees completed the collection.
Still young, the fruit trees are available to all Divonnais, who can feast on their escapades with freshly picked fruit.

DIVONNE FOREST
The Divonne forest covers an area of approximately 2000 ha ; the municipality owns 1,133 ha, managed by the National Forestry Office.
The first forest management ordinance dates from September 20, 1773. Since that time, logging has been organized.
The management plan is revised every 20 years, the current one covers the period 2012-2031; Its goal :
- It takes stock of the management of the previous period;
- It defines the managed area and validates the limits of the 104 plots representing a multitude of very varied environments from 575 to 1425 m altitude;
- It also defines the production, environmental and public reception objectives.
Each year, the interventions are validated by a deliberation of the Municipal Council.
The forest is treated in irregular high forest ; that is to say that on the same plot (approximately 10 ha) we strive to have a balance of all age and diameter classes of trees and to conserve the diversity of species present. This avoids clear cutting and planting.
With the Nature Reserve and the Haut Jura Regional Nature Park, forest managers follow the important issues of species protection (capercaillie, grouse, woodpeckers, etc.).
Climate change also weakens this balance, trees do not appreciate high temperatures over long periods without being watered.
Many of them, the conifers in particular, are withering away.
The forest knows how to welcome us, let us know how to preserve it.
